I Came to Chaminade for Two Nights... Then I Couldn't Leave

Have you ever arrived somewhere and immediately felt yourself exhale?

That was Chaminade.

Originally, I booked two nights.

Just enough time to relax, enjoy dinner, and recharge before getting back to work.

Instead...

I extended my stay to six.

Not because I had to.

Because I didn't want to leave.

There's something peaceful about this place.

Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, surrounded by towering trees and ocean breezes, Chaminade somehow feels tucked away while still being just minutes from Capitola Village, Pleasure Point, and downtown Santa Cruz.

It's the kind of place where you slow down without even realizing it.

Hospitality Begins Long Before Check-In

One of my favorite moments happened before I even unpacked.

As we stopped near the Chaminade sign to take a picture, a young employee named Jacob pulled up in a golf cart and offered to take our photo.

Such a small gesture.

But it immediately made us feel welcome.

Then he offered to show us to our room.

And after that?

He happily drove us over to The View Restaurant.

During the short ride, he shared stories about the resort's recent renovations and explained how the team wants every guest to feel at home.

Jacob has worked at Chaminade for three years.

He's only nineteen years old.

His dad is the Executive Chef and Beverage Director.

By the time we stepped off the golf cart, we weren't just excited about our stay.

We were excited to experience everything the resort had to offer.

Sometimes one genuinely kind person can completely shape your first impression.

Jacob did exactly that.

A Place That Feels Alive

Over the next day, I started meeting more members of the Chaminade family.

Kevin and Chels behind the bar.

JC, who has taken wonderful care of us during dinner.

Jesse and Chaud at the front desk.

Maddie, whose mom owns Cove Style Boutique in Capitola Village.

Ariana, who recognized me from social media and reminded me just how small and connected this community really is.

Every conversation felt genuine.

Not forced.

Not scripted.

Just people who truly enjoy making others feel welcome.

More Than Just a Beautiful Resort

Even on a cloudy July morning, Chaminade is full of life.

Guests are enjoying the heated pools.

Others are heading toward the spa for massages, facials, or time in the Himalayan salt room.

Some are simply sitting quietly with coffee, taking in the peaceful surroundings.

As I write this, I'm sitting inside The View Restaurant, enjoying the fireplace, planning to order the salmon lox bagel I've heard so many wonderful things about.

Work somehow feels easier here.

The noise of everyday life fades into the background.

And for a little while, everything slows down.
