Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Do Is Check In Somewhere Quiet
I didn't realize how much I needed this trip.
Like so many small business owners, my days are usually filled with emails, inventory, customer service, payroll, social media, buying trips, and trying to squeeze just one more thing into the day.
There's always another project waiting.
Another phone call.
Another deadline.
When I booked a couple of nights away, I thought I was simply changing my scenery.
Instead...
I changed my pace.
And I think that's exactly what I needed.
The Beauty of Doing Less
As I sit with my morning coffee overlooking the trees, something feels different.
No rushing.
No notifications demanding my attention.
No feeling guilty for sitting still.
Just birds singing.
Fresh mountain air.
A quiet fireplace.
And a view that reminds me the world is much bigger than my to-do list.
It's amazing what happens when you finally give yourself permission to slow down.
Peace Looks Different for Everyone
For some people, peace means sitting beside the ocean.
For others, it's walking through a quiet forest.
Some find it while reading a book.
Others find it over dinner with people they love.
This week, I've found mine tucked into the hills above Santa Cruz, only minutes from Capitola Village.
Close enough to enjoy my favorite beach town.
Far enough away to truly recharge.
Sometimes that's exactly the balance we need.
Why I Love the California Coast
One of the reasons I continue coming back to the Central Coast is because every town has its own personality.
Capitola is colorful, welcoming, and full of life.
Pleasure Point has an easygoing surf culture.
Santa Cruz blends adventure with creativity.
And places like Chaminade offer a peaceful retreat when you simply want to breathe.
Together, they create something that keeps calling people back.
A Reminder We All Need
It's easy to believe we need a two-week vacation to feel rested.
Sometimes...
All we need is one quiet morning.
One good cup of coffee.
A comfortable chair.
A beautiful view.
And permission to simply be where we are.
I've learned this week that slowing down isn't time lost.
It's time invested in becoming the best version of ourselves.
Kathleen's Tip
If you're visiting the Santa Cruz area, don't feel like every minute has to be planned. Leave an afternoon open. Sit with a coffee. Watch the trees move in the breeze. Some of the best memories happen when nothing is scheduled.
