Katalina’s Journal: Scottsdale Shopping Guide — What to Wear, Where to Shop & What to Look For
Shopping in Scottsdale? Here's How We'd Spend the Day.
There are certain places where shopping feels like part of the experience rather than just another errand.
Scottsdale, Arizona is absolutely one of them.
Shopping.
Brunch.
Coffee.
Dinner.
Maybe a cocktail.
Definitely some wandering around.
And somehow what started as “I'm just going to look” turns into an entire day. 😂
Welcome back to Katalina's Journal.
Today we're talking about shopping in Scottsdale, what to wear, what we look for when boutique shopping and how to turn a shopping trip into a really fun Scottsdale day.
What Should You Wear Shopping in Scottsdale?
First priority:
Dress for the actual weather.
We love fall fashion as much as anyone, but Scottsdale doesn't suddenly become sweater weather because the calendar says September.
For a September shopping day, think lightweight.
A fitted tank.
Easy wide-leg pants.
Denim.
A casual dress.
A matching set.
Comfortable shoes.
Then bring a lightweight cardigan if you're heading somewhere with aggressive Arizona air conditioning.
Because somehow Scottsdale can be hot outside and approximately Antarctica inside a restaurant. 😂
Outfit #1: Nikibiki Tank + Wide-Leg Pants
This might be one of our favorite Scottsdale outfit formulas.
A fitted Nikibiki tank keeps the top simple while a flowy wide-leg pant gives the outfit movement.
Add sandals.
Jewelry.
A great crossbody.
Done.
If you want the outfit to feel more like fall, use color instead of heavy fabric.
Chocolate.
Camel.
Olive.
Cream.
Wine.
You get the fall look without sweating through the fall experience.
SHOP: Nikibiki
Outfit #2: An Easy Dress
A great dress is almost impossible to mess up.
One piece.
Shoes.
Bag.
Jewelry.
You're dressed.
For a Scottsdale shopping day, we'd choose something comfortable enough to walk around in but cute enough that you can head straight to lunch or dinner afterward.
And that's the test we love:
Can this outfit go more than one place?
If yes, we're interested.

Outfit #3: Matching Set
Matching sets are basically the answer for anyone who wants to look like they tried harder than they did.
Nobody needs to know. 😂
They're comfortable.
They look intentional.
And depending on the style, you can wear them shopping during the day and straight into dinner.
Even better?
Wear the pieces separately later.

Outfit #4: Made in Italy
We love bringing our Made in Italy clothing into Scottsdale because so many of the styles work beautifully in warmer climates.
Flowy silhouettes.
Lightweight knits.
Wide-leg pants.
Easy tops.
Dresses.
The result feels elevated without looking overly dressed.
That's very Scottsdale.

The Best Bag for a Scottsdale Shopping Day
We're choosing a crossbody.
Every time.
If you're going in and out of stores, carrying shopping bags, checking your phone, grabbing coffee and stopping for lunch, the last thing you need is another thing to hold.
A Hammitt crossbody gives you the polished leather-handbag look while keeping your hands free.
And if the shopping gets slightly out of control?
At least one bag isn't in your hands. 😂

What Should You Look for When Boutique Shopping?
This is where shopping gets fun.
Don't only look for something you already decided you need.
Boutiques are about discovery.
Look for:
A brand you've never tried.
A fabric that feels amazing.
A color you don't normally wear.
An unusual detail.
Something Made in Italy.
A basic that fits better than the one you already own.
A handbag you'll carry constantly.
Or that completely unnecessary thing that makes you ridiculously happy.
There's room for practical AND fun.
Try On the Thing You Think Won't Work
We will continue preaching this forever.
Try.
It.
On.
Clothing on a hanger tells you almost nothing.
Wide-leg pants can look enormous until they're on your body.
A sweater can look shapeless until you see how it drapes.
A dress you would have walked straight past can end up being THE dress.
This is one of our favorite things about shopping in person.
The fitting room changes minds.
Don't Shop Only for Your Imaginary Life
This might save you some money.
It's very easy to shop for the woman you imagine you're going to become.
She apparently attends a LOT of cocktail parties. 😂
Shop for your real life too.
Where do you actually go?
What do you wear every week?
Do you need clothes for work?
Travel?
Brunch?
Date night?
Everyday errands?
Buy pieces that fit the life you're actually living.
Then throw in a few fabulous things just because you love them.
Balance.
Shop Small While You're in Scottsdale
One of our favorite parts of shopping in a city like Scottsdale is discovering businesses you won't find everywhere else.
Independent boutiques give neighborhoods personality.
And when you shop small, you're supporting the actual people behind those businesses.
Your purchase matters.
Your review matters.
Telling your friend matters.
Tagging the store matters.
Coming back matters.
Small businesses notice those things.
We promise.
California Style Meets Scottsdale
Katalina's actually started with a very different backdrop:
Capitola, California.
Beach.
Coastal air.
Colorful Capitola Village.
Easy California style.
When we brought Katalina's to Scottsdale, Arizona, we didn't want to suddenly become something completely different.
We wanted to bring that same effortless personality with us—then make it work for Arizona.
Think:
California coastal ease + Scottsdale style.
That's our sweet spot.

Your Scottsdale Shopping Outfit Formula
Before you go, here's the formula:
Lightweight top + great bottom + comfortable shoes + crossbody + optional layer.

Cute enough for lunch.
Polished enough that if lunch accidentally becomes happy hour...
You're already dressed. 😉
Until next time,
