What to Wear in Capitola This Weekend: Beach Festival Outfit Ideas

Coming to Capitola This Weekend? Let's Figure Out What You're Wearing.

If you're heading to Capitola, California this weekend, first of all...

Good choice. 😉

And if you're coming for Capitola Beach Festival weekend, you're going to want an outfit that can handle a little bit of everything.

Walking around Capitola Village.

Time at the beach.

Shopping.

Lunch.

Festival activities.

Possibly staying into the evening.

And, of course, the coastal weather deciding to change its mind halfway through the day.

Welcome back to Katalina's Journal.

Here's what we'd wear for a September weekend in Capitola.

The #1 Rule: Bring a Layer

We know.

We've said it approximately 700 times. 😂

But if you're visiting Capitola, bring the sweater.

Even when the day starts beautifully.

A lightweight sweater or cardigan is easy to carry, easy to throw over a tank or dress and VERY nice to have once the temperature starts dropping.

For Beach Festival weekend, we'd choose something comfortable rather than anything overly heavy.

SHOP: Women's Sweaters & Cardigans

Outfit #1: Tank + Denim + Cardigan

This might be our ultimate Capitola outfit.

Start with a fitted Nikibiki tank.

Add your favorite denim.

Throw a cardigan or sweater over your shoulders.

Finish with comfortable shoes and a crossbody bag.

During the warmest part of the day, lose the cardigan.

When it cools down?

Back on.

No wardrobe crisis required.

SHOP: Nikibiki

Outfit #2: Wide-Leg Pants + Fitted Top

If you want to look a little more put together without sacrificing comfort, we LOVE wide-leg pants.

Pair them with a fitted tank or simple top to balance the silhouette.

Add sandals, sneakers or another comfortable shoe.

Then bring a lightweight layer for later.

Our Made in Italy pants are perfect for this kind of effortless coastal outfit.

They look elevated without feeling overly dressed up.

Exactly what we want.

SHOP: Milio Milano Made in Italy

Outfit #3: Casual Dress + Sweater

Yes, you can absolutely wear a dress to Beach Festival.

Just make it a dress you can actually move around in.

This isn't the day for something you need to adjust every twelve seconds.

Choose an easy dress.

Add comfortable shoes.

Bring a cardigan or sweater.

And you're ready for the beach, shopping and lunch without changing.

SHOP: Dresses

Outfit #4: Matching Set + Crossbody

We will always find a reason to wear a matching set.

It's one of the easiest ways to look put together while basically doing zero styling work.

Add a crossbody.

Comfortable shoes.

Jewelry.

Done.

And later, you can wear the pieces separately with things already in your closet.

We love an outfit that works overtime.

SHOP: Matching Sets

The Bag We'd Carry: A Crossbody

Festival weekends are made for crossbody bags.

You don't want to spend your day holding onto a handbag while you're shopping, taking photos, eating or walking around the beach.

Keep your essentials close and your hands free.

This is exactly the kind of day we'd grab a Hammitt crossbody.

And because it's leather and beautifully made, it can take an otherwise casual outfit and instantly make it feel more polished.

SHOP: Hammitt Handbags

What Shoes Should You Wear in Capitola?

Comfortable ones.

That's the answer. 😂

If you're planning to explore the Village and Beach Festival, you're going to walk.

A lot.

Sneakers, comfortable sandals or another flat shoe you already KNOW you can walk in are usually the safest bet.

This is not the weekend to discover that the adorable new shoes you bought become instruments of torture after 30 minutes.

Save those for dinner.

What Colors Feel Like Fall in Capitola?

You don't need heavy clothing to make an outfit feel like fall.

Bring in the season through color.

We're loving:

Chocolate brown

Camel

Cream and ivory

Burgundy and wine

Olive

Denim

Blush

And honestly?

We're never giving up pink just because summer ended.

Wear what makes you happy.

What Should You Bring to Capitola Beach Festival?

Keep it simple.

Your crossbody.

Sunglasses.

Sunscreen.

A layer.

Comfortable shoes.

And whatever festival essentials you personally need for the day.

If you're planning to stay through the evening activities, that extra layer becomes even more important.
